Two quick thoughts …

Something to think about for conservatives interested in more than just a Republican “win” … The “anybody but Obama” mentality gave us Nixon, the 2 Bush’s, Bob Dole, and John McCain, all of whom would have been considered liberal New Dealists a mere 50 years ago. How much further left are you willing to push the conservative brand?

Despite talk of Gary Johnson or whatever else is out there, it is a two-car race. Libertarianism is gaining the the American consciousness …

Ideas catch on because they have support. To wait to support limited-government ideas until they’ve gained mass attraction is to wait forever. To vote for whomever, simply because “it is a two-car race,” is to waive the white flag … and kiss the boot forever stomping on your face.

Thanks. I live in Kalifornia so it doesn’t matter who I vote for. It certainly won’t be Romney or Obama.

You raise some very interesting points, Ted. I think there is a real possibility the Republican Party will lose in Iowa, as well as the rest of the nation, if we put forth the wrong candidate. We should know within a few weeks, but Mitt Romney has “establishment candidate” written across his chest. That doesn’t sit well with me.

I am not in the anybody but Obama camp as I feel that neither Romney or Gingrich is much different than Obama. They are all big government guys and I don’t support any of them. If Romney wins Iowa it is basically over because he is going to win big here in New Hampshire and ride these two victories to the nomination and there isn’t going to be anything that we can do about it.

Harrison, i have to agree with your assessments across the board, other than I wouldn’t support Romney based on his record as Governor. I think your comparison to GHW Bush is appropriate, and your analysis of hi effect on the party as well. That’s really the point I’m trying to make here.

Iowa has a poor record of picking Republicans who won the presidency. Ron Paul should be running as a third party candidate and he’s picking up most of his support from Democrats and non-Republicans. Gingrich is one of the biggest liars in politics you can’t take anything he says with a grain of salt. Santorum is too much of a Bible thumper for me and, quite franky, his views are not mainstream for a majority of Americans on social issues.

If Romney would have simply stuck to a position I’d have fewer reservations voting for him but he is a flip flopper and that is what bothers me so much… sort of a George H.W. Bush character who, I think, wasn’t good for the GOP.

I am not sure Romney can win in South Carolina because of the good number of Christians that are interested in electing a Christian for the nominee over a Mormon. New Hampshire is his, and I still think he will eventually win but it make take some time.

Johnson is polling at 9% nationally, and we haven’t hardly gotten started! I have to believe he can get it done, because I don’t think Romney is the answer.
