Update On Decklyn

I wanted to share with you the news we have on Decklyn, our grandson who was born on May 26. About a week after he was born, the doctors Decklyndiscovered he had a heart murmur. After doing several echocardigrams at the local hospital, his doctor determined further testing was needed. He was flown to Arkansas Children’s Hospital last Wednesday. His father was able to fly with him and we drove Alisha and Alexia down to Little Rock. They immediately began performing tests and discovered that he has two holes in his heart. Thankfully, those holes seem to be repairing themselves, as they have tissue already growing over the holes. Unfortunately, that isn’t his only problem.

They also discovered he has a narrowing of the aortic valve in his heart. This is the valve that controls the blood flow to his stomach, kidneys, and lower part of his body. At least, that’s the best description I can give. They have a catheter inserted to provide medicine to keep the valve from closing further, but surgery has to be performed. It will probably take place early next week. I’m not sure what the procedure will be, but they will be going in through his side. The little fellow will be kept completely unconscious for a couple of days to help with the healing process.

The nurses have told Alisha, his mother, that he is doing remarkably well. He is on oxygen, but that is mainly to prevent further stress to his lungs and his heart. He is breathing good and isn’t fussy. We have been babysitting his sister, Alexia, since Wednesday night. She is two years old and the poor baby can’t figure out why her parents aren’t around. Because they are over two hours away, running back and forth simply isn’t an option, financially.

Between this, and the fact that I managed to get vertigo while driving myself to Little Rock (I had to be wheeled out of the hospital in a wheelchair), I have had neither the time, nor the inclination, to write about the news or politics. Things like this are a painful reminder of what is really important in our lives. Issues like the upcoming election pale in significance.

I would appreciate it greatly if you would keep Decklyn in your prayers. He’s going to need all of them he can get. Pray that God himself will guide the hand of the surgeon and give Decklyn the strength he needs to heal.

UPDATE:  I have updated this post with the correct information about the condition Decklyn has. It is the aortic valve in his heart that is narrowed.

Larry, while none of this makes any sense, it is important to know God cares about Decklyn and the rest of your family, too. Every member of your family is affected by this situation; I know God will show himself strong so everyone will know his love and concern for all of you. May the Lord bring complete victory regarding this situation.

Larry, My wife and I will be keeping you and your family in our prayers.
Please let us know if there is a fund to help the parents pay for travel expenses, lost time at work, and medical bills. We would love to donate, as we know firsthand how hard this can be and all the sacrifices they have to make. Feel free to contact me directly on Facebook or at the blog email address.

Two songs, both by the same artist come to mind….Jeremy Camp’s “Walk by Faith” and “I Still Believe.” Check out the lyrics. They say it better than I can. Our pastor talked about having confidence in your faith today. Your faith in Christ will bring you through this.

So sorry Larry; praying that the doctors can correct the situation. There’s nothing sadder than a sick child and the feeling of helplessness the adults have. It sounds as though he is in the best of hands and has the support of a great family. Praying for your grandson and the entire family.

I hate that this is happening. I know that time slows down when you have a baby in the hospital. It’s good news that his breathing is doing good and doesn’t have any infections. Praying that once his plumbing is straightened out, this will all soon be a distant memory.

Wow Larry, I just found this. I’ll be praying for the little one.
