Perry did seem to think the vaccine should be mandated, but even in his executive order, he gave parents the option to opt out. When he discovered how so many Texans were against it, he backed off and changed his mind.

But, he backed off almost as quick as he tried to mandate it. Young girls in Texas are not required to get this shot now, never were and never will be under Perry’s watch.

I am not saying that I am a Perry supporter but I’m definitely looking at him. They all have their faults, we just have to choose the one that best fits our needs.

Perry didn’t change his mind about the Gardasil vaccine until this last week (seems very much like a Romney flip-flop). Also, the articles I have read (not blogs, but newspapers in Texas and mainstream media in 2007), he mandated this vaccine. Governors don’t “implement” vaccines, that falls in the hands of Public Health officials, but politicians can require vaccination. The fact that he mandated a vaccine that is for a STD, does not sit well with me. Gardasil is not a cervical cancer vaccine as many refer to it, it is for the human papilloma virus (which increases risk of cervical cancer but is not the only cause). I’m not throwing Gov. Perry out the window yet for this, but it does make me more cautious.
