Behind closed doors, Pelosi and Reid work on health care reform
January 10, 2010 by LD Jackson · 1 Comment
It has been several days, Christmas Eve to be exact, since I wrote about the passage of the health care reform bill in the Senate. That was the day it passed 60-39, on it’s way to a conference committee, to be reconciled with the version that was passed earlier by the House. In that article, [...]
House health care plan not good for small business
November 18, 2009 by LD Jackson · Leave a Comment
When the House of Representatives passed their version of health care legislation earlier this month, I did some very extensive reading of the final version of their bill. (Final as in before they reconcile with the Senate.) At at time, I wrote an article detailing some of the things that I felt were wrong with [...]
Can Americans afford cap and trade?

Do you know of anyone who doesn’t believe in protecting the environment? If you can find someone who really believes it is okay to treat the Earth any old way, you will have found someone who is very lacking in their knowledge about the world in which we live. When I was a young boy, I thought nothing about some of the things I did, such as throwing glass bottles in my father’s stock pond (actually a small lake) and shooting them up with a .22 revolver.
AIG bonuses to be taxed to death
March 20, 2009 by LD Jackson · 4 Comments
Congress never ceases to amaze me at how inept they can be at times. At the risk of beating a dead horse, let’s visit the AIG bonuses once again. It appears that the bonuses in question sort of slipped through the cracks and nobody seems to be willing or able to tell us how it [...]
Is it time for The Fair Tax?
February 26, 2009 by LD Jackson · 14 Comments
Even as I begin this article, I hesitate to do so because I am no expert of taxation and the economy. One thing I do know is that the current tax system we have is bloated and very much unfair to the average American citizen. In almost every political campaign, there is at least one candidate who campaigns on lowering taxes or making them more fair to his or her constituents. While all of that sounds good, in reality it is mostly rhetoric.

Wasting no time, negotiators from Congress and the White House have reportedly reached an agreement on the final version of the economic stimulus package President Obama has requested to be on his desk for his signature within a few days. The final cost of the bill is set at $790 billion and in spite of [...]
Owner of Peanut Corp. ordered tainted products shipped
February 11, 2009 by LD Jackson · 6 Comments
This may seem like old news because the investigation into the salmonella outbreak has been ongoing for several months, but the today’s news highlights something very troubling as more details are made available.
We need to remember the name of Stewart Parnell, the owner of Peanut Corp. of America. The House of Representatives has subpoenaed Parnell [...]
Obama stimulus package set for House vote
January 28, 2009 by LD Jackson · 2 Comments
Before Barack Obama even took the oath of office, he was declaring the need for quick action on his economic stimulus package and it has been working it’s way through Congress ever since. He has made several personal appeals to the Republican minority in the House of Representatives, asking for their support and even asking [...]
Pelosi and Obama differ on priorities
January 19, 2009 by LD Jackson · 2 Comments
Even though Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is no doubt ecstatic that Barack Obama is about to be sworn in as our nation’s 44th President, there are signs that the two may differ sharply in some of their priorities. One of the main differences between the two are the Bush tax cuts. The first [...]
Oklahoma Senators Tom Coburn and Jim Inhofe speak out against automaker bailout
December 11, 2008 by LD Jackson · 5 Comments
Just when it looks like the bailout for the Detroit automakers may have stalled, the United States Senate is negotiating into the night, trying to hammer out an agreement that would give the automakers $14 billion in emergency funding. From The Associated Press:
Labor, lawmakers and the auto industry bargained in unprecedented private talks at the [...]
