You're welcome, Maggie. Yes, I do enjoy writing these posts. I think that's why they tend to be longer than my normal posts. It's hard to find a stopping point.

That's an interesting story about the beaver in James Michener's book. Thanks for sharing.

Larry, I think you enjoy writing these as much as everyone here enjoys reading them. The pic of the lodge is fascinating. I had no idea that beavers use the same lodge over and over every year.

In one of James Michener's books, Centennial I think, in the long historical introduction he does, there was a female beaver. She wasn't very pretty, and she had a really tough time finding a male beaver to spend her life with. It was so poignantly written that I have never forgotten it. Eventually she finds the love of her life, and at the end of that life, she climbs up on an underwater shelf that I think had something to do with the Rockies and dies there. Centuries later, someone finds her beautiful fossilized body on that shelf. Can't remember if her man was with her or not.

Thank you so much for the link. I love finding new blogs to me here.

It is amazing the way that all of nature is intertwined, even what we consider the most inconsequencial of creatures serves a purpose in the overall scheme of things. The beaver creates wetlands and this allows other animals to thrive, everything in nature is connected.
Thanks for the link Larry!

You're welcome, 5etester. I think the reason don't have such love for other rodents is that they see no purpose for them. That's why so many people dislike the prairie dog, but my post on it proved it had much more purpose than most people ever imagined. Maybe I should write about the rat?

Thanks Larry. Interesting how perspective changes opinion. Everyone seems to like the beaver (unless you have a water issue ), yet no such love for the other members of the rodent family.
