I'm going to steer clear of the whole "hate" issue here since I'm not in the president's head. That said, from yesterday's Wall Street Journal:

"Mr. Obama recognizes the stakes, threatening yesterday to veto the Boehner plan in a tactical move to block any Democratic support. The White House is afraid that it will pass the House and then become the only debt-ceiling vehicle if Mr. Reid can't get 60 votes for his own proposal in the Senate. This would short-circuit Mr. Obama's plan to blame the GOP for a U.S. credit downgrade, any market turmoil, a possible default, and the lousy economy too . . . It's true that the Boehner plan doesn't fix the long-term debt problem, but Mr. Obama won't agree to anything that does."

Harsh words from a respected journal - not exactly a bunch of hate-mongers.

@Jim at Conservatives On Fire I am in complete agreement with you. I would also add that George Soros has brought down at least a few countries economically due to his betting against their currency. It's more complicated then that but even Merkel of Germany warned of Soros' shenanigans. It has to do with currency speculation. You can look here - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1253791/Is-man-broke-Bank-England-George-Soros-centre-hedge-funds-betting-crisis-hit-euro.html - to get a peak into what financial calamities he has caused (or helped to) and which benefited from. Obama is at the very least a follower of Soros and is probably a puppet for Soros also. Is it possible that Obama is following Soros' orders to collapse the American dollar? This would almost certainly have to include collapsing the American economy along with the dollar. It is easier to "remake" something in your own vision after you have destroyed it.

I assure you, jack that it gives me no joy to accuse our President of hating America. But, I also assure you that I came to that conclusion honestly and it has nothing to do with ideology. I have detested many of the policies of such Presidents as Nixon, LBJ, Carter, Clinton and G. W. Bush; but it never occurred to me that any of these Presidents hated America. As I said, I arrived at my assessment of Obama from observing him and listening to him. I can't recall ever thinking that any of the previous Presidents I just mentioned ever intentionally went against the will of people. Obama has and continues to operate in many areas against the perceived will of the people. Is hate too strong of a word? maybe but dislike doesn't seem strong enough. Maybe disdain would be better. We can debate over which adjective is best. My point is that there is something more than ideological difference driving President Obama. Anyway, I hope this clarifies where I am coming from, Jack.

If you took offense to that then I'm sorry. I only said it because I figured that you probably don't believe that Obama is part of some conspiracy to destroy America.

I had a fairly hard crisis of conscience when we discovered that prisoners at Abu Ghraib had been tortured, and that we had been waterboarding people. To think that Americans would sink so low as to torture people was extremely disheartening, and to learn that a government agency sanctioned waterboarding was, to say the least, disappointing.

I don't view America as being perfect, and I think there are a lot of things that are deeply flawed in our society, but that doesn't mean I hate the country and want to destroy it. It's actually the oposite: I love this country so much that I want to change it for the better.

I've heard all kinds of crazy conspiracy theories about Obama, that he's secretly a Muslim who is some sort of sleeper agent who is trying to destroy America to please his Muslim masters. I'm sorry, but that's tin-foil-hat type stuff. I'm not saying you believe that, but that's what I was thinking of when I made that comment.

It's more reasonable to think that Obama loves America and genuinely thinks that his policies will make it better. It's reasonable to think that of any president. Do we think that GWB hates America because of the disaster that is NCLB? Are we going to look back into history and accuse every president that ever had a failed administration of hating America and wanting to destroy it?

I certainly hope not. We might judge them as crappy presidents, but they are men who are just as capable of failing as you and me. If I were president and everything I did failed, I'd be hurt for people to assert that I hate America, as would you. As would anyone.

Gentlemen, I welcome differences of opinion. I think that is healthy. I am more than willing to listen to a different point of view and to enter into debate on occasion. But I would never ridicule somebody for having an opinion different from mine (the tin foil hat comment)except in response to ridicule.

My opinion that Obama hates America is based on observation of the man, his choice of words, the tone of his voice, his body language and in Obama's case the manner in which he has talked down America in his dealings with foreign dignitaries. In truth, I can speak intelligently about Hitler. But I can with Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. I have never heard these two men talk down their countries. or demonstrate any disdain for their countries. I worry that Obama holds the same views as his pastor of twenty years in Chicago; that America is a country created and built by rich white racist. So, that is how I arrive at my opinion. Surely we can agree to disagree without resorting to personal attacks.

That is a very valid point, Steve. The tax or revenue increases are immediate and the spending cuts are spread out over ten years. Translated, that usually means the cuts will not come at all, as is evidenced by history. That's not a deal I am comfortable with at all.

I think you are right Larry. This will be a short term fix and we will do it all over in a year or so. What bothers me the most is that most likely the tax increases will be immediate while the cuts will be scheduled over years and I just don't trust that all of those cuts will come at all.

The can is almost certainly going to be kicked down the road, Mike. I wish that were not the case. I wish they would all man up and do what needs to be done, but the politics of the situation seem to demand they not do so.

As I mentioned in one of my previous comments, I do believe the debt ceiling needs to be raised, but I think there has been an extreme amount of hype added to that necessity. Again, the politics of the situation raises it's ugly head.

I would raise one more point or question about this entire scenario. Both parties are trying to work a deal that increases the debt ceiling by a particular amount. Any budget cuts or tax or revenue increases are to be implemented over the course of ten years. However, are those cuts and increases going to be set in stone? What is to stop the next Congress, be it controlled by the Republicans or Democrats, from ignoring those and passing a budget that contains neither? If that happens, haven't the Democrats gotten what they wanted all along; an increase in the debt ceiling with no strings attached? I think it is something to consider.

I would tend to agree, Steve. I don't see the Democrats settling for anything other than tax increases. We have quite the impasse going on and I can't wait to see the deal they come up with to settle this. There is no telling what it will contain, but whatever it is, I doubt it will be a long term fix. Too much politicking going on for that to happen.
