I couldn’t have said it better myself, Laurie. So many times, the children in this country are strangers to their own parents and vice versa. That is one reason Tammy and I made the decision to homeschool our daughters and we have never regretted that decision. I will have to tell you sometime of the wonderful job Tammy did at teaching our children. It wasn’t easy, but it was very rewarding for her.

Erika makes a point-there are a lot of people out there who rail against the public school system, yet abdicate most of their parental responsibility to them. Perhaps if most parents in our country were the primary source for their children’s value formation, this wouldn’t be such a big deal. Sadly, it’s not the case.

Whatever happened to the days of strong parental involvment with their children? I think there’s a lot of parents out there that know-deep down- that they are not taking the lead role in their children’s development, and so use occasions like the Obama speech to show how much they care. A little hard to take from a population where the large majority of parents have handed their children over to others to raise since they were babies…

What I like best about this opinion is that it comes from a guy who home schooled his kids. There is nothing more socialist than public schools. I find all those people who send their kids to public schools and then yell and scream about Obama’s socialist agenda to be hypocritical. Send your kids to private school, home school them. But don’t help keep the public school system going. If you do, the American people will never have a say about who speaks to our kids.

Social security, medicaid, the post office, even the police department — all of these things can be handled by private companies. I don’t need the government to send one of their employees to my home everyday to deliver my mail, or to pick up my garbage every other day. My god. Government is everywhere in our lives. What happened to good old capitalism?

Janette, nothing was said about his color until you brought it up. If you would read Larry’s blog back a few pages you would see he never has had an issue with Obama’s color or race.

Make no mistake, I am no fan of President Obama and I believe you both know that by now. There are a multitude of issues on which we disagree, but I just believe those of us who do disagree with him and his agenda would be better served by picking our fights instead of jumping at every shadow.

Great post Larry. It’s really amazing! Is there anything Obama can do that will not draw the ire and suspicion of Republicans? I doubt it. Beware, he is trying to brainwash our children! I’m sure all the children who watch will run home and tell their parents to support the public option in Obama’s health care plan — that’s his motive here. He’ll probably insert those hidden pictures that subconsciously enter our thoughts even though we never actually focus on the picture. Very sneaky these Democrats! I’m sure glad I don’t have grade school age children — this could ruin them for life!
