Will Rogers Turnpike accident still a mystery

turnpike_accidentOn Friday, June 26 the people stopped in traffic on the Will Rogers Turnpike near Miami, Oklahoma had no idea the tragedy that was about to happen. A tractor-trailer rig driven by Donald Creed plowed into the line of cars from behind, causing multiple deaths and injuries. Hours later, it was known that nine people had died; a tenth person died on Sunday.

According to The Tulsa World, Creed had a clean driving record, both in Oklahoma and Missouri. He had also just passed his medical examination, which included tests of his hearing and sight. So far, all evidence is pointing to driver error, rather than mechanical error.

This is a sad time for Oklahoma and the families who lost their loved ones or who had loved ones who were injured in the accident. I have read lots of comments about the accident, comments that said the driver should never have had a commercial driver’s license because he was 76 years old. For those of you who have made such comments, ask yourselves this question. How many times have you nearly had an accident, just from glancing away from the road in front of you? It has happened to all of us at one time or another. The thing that we all need to remember is that this was apparently just an accident. Donald Creed did not mean to drive into those vehicles and kill ten of his fellow human beings.

My heart goes out to those who have lost their loved ones. This is most certainly a trying time in their lives. However, my heart also goes out to Donald Creed. No doubt he will be tormented by what has happened for the rest of his life. Let’s keep that in mind, shall we.
