What to do with John McCain

As all of my regular readers know, I have had a lot of decisions to make about what I will do in the general election in November.  Since Mike Huckabee has dropped out of the race, a lot of his supporters have had the same decisions to make.  Let me explain where I am at in the process of decision.

To start with, I have not been secretive about my feelings about John McCain.  I do not care for him much at all.  I realize he has served our country and was a POW and I take nothing away from him for that.  However, there are some things that he has done that I simply can not stand.  First and foremost is his betrayal of his wife.  I so not understand how a man could do his wife the way he did his first wife.  To me, it proves he can not be trusted.

His famous McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform package is second on the list.  In my opinion, that piece of trash legislation is the main reason candidates such as Mike Huckabee have such an uphill battle to get their message out to the general public.  It spits in the face of freedom of speech.

Next comes his willingness to fight against corruption in politics and against the special interests groups and their money that are so strong in Washington.  Admittedly, he has done some good in this area, but he also has a lot of lobbyists on his campaign payroll.  That leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  How can you fight against the lobbyists and have them on your payroll at the same time?

As the campaign continues to move forward, a lot of Huckabee supporters have hoped that John McCain would choose Mike Huckabee as his running mate.  While I have written articles that try to showcase what I felt Huckabee’s strong points were for the job of Vice-President, I have not felt strongly that McCain would choose him.  As a matter of fact, I have not felt strongly that Huckabee would accept the job, were it to be offered.  I have said that having Huckabee on the McCain ticket would make it a lot more attractive and there are a lot of Huckabee supporters who have made their minds up to turn their backs on McCain and the GOP, if Huckabee is not on the ticket.  While I understand that frustration, having felt it myself, I am not sure that is the best way to handle the situation.

While we all have our disagreements with John McCain, the fact remains that he would be a far cry better than either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton.  Close your eyes for a moment and imagine a Congress controlled by the Democrats, coupled with a very liberal Democratic President.  That is not a pretty sight.  McCain does have an almost 100% pro-life voting record and I believe the judges he would appoint, if given the chance, would be a lot better than those appointed by the Democrats.  I realize that some of my readers may disagree strongly with what I am saying, but we need to think long and hard about this.  We may need to choose to vote for the lesser of two evils in the general election, if for no other reason than to prevent our country from being damaged and torn beyond repair.  If the Democrats win the general election and the office of the President, our country may never recover, even if Mike Huckabee is elected in 2012.

After having said all this, I would like to point you to an article by Brian Snow, at Popular Huck.  It is rather lengthy and is in five parts, but I believe it will be worth your time to read it.  It may help clear your head and your heart about the decision we all have to make, come November.  This is all just food for thought.  I urge you to read Brian’s article and consider what we both have said.  We need to also consider what Mike Huckabee would want us to do.  We are not sheep being led by Mike Huckabee, but we have all learned a lot from him, just by watching how he has conducted himself during the campaign. Let’s keep that in mind, shall we?

That’s my take!

Larry

For me, I have signed the “Only Huckabee” pledge and will write him in when I vote in November.

For me the most critical reason I cannot vote for McCain is that he is for the North American Union in a big way. Two years ago, I fought him on a bill he was trying to pass that would literally redraw the boundary lines around America to include Mexico and Canada. Ever wonder why the border is still open? That’s why. The NAU…

Anyway, the bill passed. I was so upset I wrote my representative in Oklahoma (I was living there at the time) and he informed me there was no problem with the legislation unless and when our sovereignty was ever jeopardized. I thought…then it will be too late.

The problem with the 3 candidates that we have before us, as I see it, is that they all want to dramatically change the very core of who America is. And that….I can’t vote for.

Great article, Larry – as usual!

I just redid my website and posted my second article on the Oprah/Eckhart webnar. Waiting to find out if it will be published too.

I hope you enjoy having Clinton or Obama for president then Dominique.

A Huckabee only policy is sure to make this happen.

Hillary Clinton is the least trust worthy person ever to have run for president including Bill.

The thought of having her as president is my worse nightmare.

Really support Huckabee and do what he is doing by supporting John McCain.

Ask yourself do you really think Mike wants you to sign a pledge to only support him.

If you want to keep Huckabee in the public eye the push for him to get the VP slot. That will help him in 2012 or 2916.
