What happened in Iowa?
It is very clear, Mike Huckabee has done something the Republican establishment didn’t think he could do and most certainly didn’t want him to do. They had already anointed Mitt Romney as the candidate of choice. How dare the people, the actual voters, the people who pay taxes and live everyday lives go against what the establishment wanted. Well, dare they did go and Huckabee has won Iowa by a good margin. Let’s take a look at it, shall we?
The prevailing theory is the Christians were the ones that brought Huckabee to victory and while that may be partially true, I believe there is more. I do not mean to discount the effect Christians had or will have on this election, but I am a Christian and I will say, Mike Huckabee’s Christianity is not the most deciding factor that gains my support. If there are any Iowans out there that read this, Christian or non-Christian, I hope you will weigh in on this and leave a comment. I would really like to know what you think.
For me, my support of Mike Huckabee stems from a number of factors and not necessarily in the order I list them. First, he strikes me as a man of his word and as a man who really connects to the regular people in this country. He sees the job of President as a job to serve the people. That’s how he viewed the job as Governor of Arkansas. I do like his support of the Fair Tax as well. I think he really understands the Fair Tax in a way that is rare. I like also his view that politics needs to stop being about left and right, liberal and conservative. He wants to see the country moving up, instead of being stuck in a rut, grinding around a mill grindstone all day long and getting nothing accomplished. He wants to see our country move forward.
Last night, Iowa Republicans showed us what they were thinking. They rejected Mitt Romney and his negative politics and endorsed Mike Huckabee and his positive message. Now, it is on to New Hampshire and South Carolina. I can not predict how Huckabee will do in either state, although I think he will place maybe third in New Hampshire and hopefully win in South Carolina. However it goes, the voting has started and I look forward to watching Mike Huckabee go all the way to the White House.
That’s my take!

Huckabee had overwhelming support amoung evanglist and born-again Christians… That said, I do not think that Christianity played that much into it, simply that he happens to be very in line with what he believes/supports.
He didn’t get very much support amoung those not Evalgislt/born-again. His being a former Baptist pastor actually hurt him with them… plus the attacks from other supporters did not help.
Some of the biggest support I have heard for him comes from FairTax supporters.
Also, the fact that he comes across as natural, and an every-day guy helped.
Oh, a comment I have heard often too is about his weight loss… people respect that.
