The Palin family chooses life
I am late getting around to this story, simply because of family obligations, but I want to share my thoughts about what has transpired today. First, the statement issued by Sarah and Todd Palin, concerning the pregnancy of their oldest daugher, Bristol. From John McCain’s website:
ARLINGTON, VA — Today, Sarah and Todd Palin issued the following statement regarding today’s Reuters story:
“We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.
“Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi’s privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates.”
My first thoughts about the pregnancy are that it is a private family matter. We should all respect the privacy of the Palin family and leave the girl alone. Sure, she made a mistake and she was open with her parents about that fact. Bristol made the decision to keep the baby and marry the father and that is about as pro life as you can get.
When the rumor about Bristol Palin surfaced, I wanted to be very careful to not spread it around. We needed to know the entire truth behind what really happened, before we started telling tales. I really felt the rumor needed to be either proven false or true and quick. The Palin family have done that, so we need to hear no more talk about who Trig’s real mother is. There is no way Bristol could have given birth to Trig and now be five months pregnant.
Again, I want to reiterate that Bristol’s pregnancy is a private family matter and it needs to stay that way. Even Barack Obama has said it has nothing to do with Sarah Palin’s candidacy for VP. He wants his campaign to leave it alone and said if he finds out some of his people had anything to do with the nasty rumor, they would be fired. Let’s leave it there, folks. It’s really none of our business.
That’s my take!

**sigh** it’s so nice to hear a little bit of common sense and general decency with regard to this issue. The girl has enough on her plate right at the moment. Give her the space and the room she needs to think clearly and make the decisions that are right for her.
To be honest, I really feel sorry for Bristol Palin. Sure, she made a mistake and she is dealing with it and taking responsibility for her actions. However, I am sure she never dreamed the dealing part would be on such a national scale. It is sad that her and her mother have been attacked in this way.
I could not agree more about this being a private family matter. Personally, I’ve had it up to way past the top of my head about this child’s mistake. I say child because Bristol Palin is still one to me. She will grow and mature with time.
She made a terrible mistake, to be sure, but no one has the right to string her up, like so many have already done. I can see some who justify themselves in their attacks of Governor Palin, but what does that have to do with Bristol? Shouldn’t the children be safe from the line of fire?
Preacher,
I totally agree. The children should not be included in this debate. That goes for the Palin children or Chelsea Clinton. It’s sad when either conservative or liberal media attack the family of a candidate they happen to disagree with.
