The media and Huckabee’s “cross”–Much ado about nothing
Let me start by saying I firmly believe in the freedom of speech and in the freedom of the press to say what they will. They are certainly free to criticize anyone they want, as long as it does not become slander. That much is a given fact and it is part of what makes our country great. That being said, it is becoming increasingly clear, the media is bound and determined to interject issues into this campaign season that are not really there and should not be an issue. If that is not true, then to what should we attribute the stories that are coming out about Mike Huckabee and his “Christian” message?
It is certainly no secret who I am supporting for President and as fair as I try to be, I may run the risk, at times, of being just a little partial to Mike Huckabee. That was one reason I started this blog. When I watched the new Christmas ad he has started running, it was a given that I would post it on my blog and I thought nothing about it, other than it was a great video. You can imagine my “dismay” to find out I had been coerced into doing that by the subliminal messages inserted into that ad. Actually, I did not notice the “cross” which was doubling as a bookshelf behind Huckabee until someone pointed it out to me. I let my wife view it and when I asked her what she thought it was, she said it was a bookshelf. She got a good, hearty laugh when I told her how the media was saying it was a cross.
Again, I realize we have a free country and the media is free to say and print pretty much what the desire, but honestly folks, this going a bit too far. I am seeing countless reports that this ad was set up intentionally to send hidden messages with the “cross” in the background. That is utter nonsense. I do not believe Mike Huckabee is the kind of man who does things like that. He is honest and open about his intentions and he is trying his best to run a positive campaign. To suggest such things, without hard proof, is pure speculation and it amounts to one thing. If they throw enough of this trash around, it may create a smoke screen big enough to hide the real issues that should be discussed in this campaign. That in turn, would keep the people like you and I, the ones who will win or lose the election for any one candidate, from knowing and understanding what Mike Huckabe is all about.
To summarize, the media, as a whole, has been putting out stories that are telling things as if they were the gospel and set in stone. They need to stick to the facts, instead of writing stories that rely on supposition and half-truths. To do anything else is doing all of us a great injustice.
That’s my take!

It seems to me it was staged. How could you not notice it in all the setup and preparation for the shoot?
I believe Mike Huckabee when he said it was completely unscripted and unplanned. He has proven himself to be a man of his word and I will take him at his word.
I got back here. Isn’t that “subliminal cross in the ad” thing funny? What’s the subliminal secret that he’s trying to communicate? That he’s a CHRISTIAN? Oh, so now the truth gets out? Really, almost any adult in the English-speaking world knows that, by now! Toddlers in Iowa probably know it! Subliminal message? Hey, they could just ASK him! (as if they haven’t made that the defining topic of his candidacy..Sheesh!
All I can say is that they are really reaching on this one. They are making themselves look much worse than Huckabee is going to look.
Like I said before, the higher he goes in the polls, the more stink they will try to throw on him. All he has to do is keep doing what he is doing now and he will come out looking a whole better than the rest of the bunch he is running against.
