Sarah Palin–Is she worthy of our vote?

It would take someone blind or deaf or completely unconcerned about American politics to be unaware of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and her impact on the race for President. When John McCain announced she would be his running mate, the conservative wing of the Republican Party was ecstatic with joy. Finally, someone who not only believed in conservative values, both socially and fiscally, but was willing and able to fight tooth and nail for them.

On the other side of the aisle, the Democrats made scoffing remarks about her and her supposed lack of experience and some very sick individuals made all sorts of accusations about her and her family. In the process, they all sank to a new low and riled conservatives in a way that hasn’t been seen in a long time. Some have even went so far as to encourage the Democrats and liberals to go ahead and continue the attacks, simply because they knew the reaction would only grow in favor of Governor Palin. Mike Huckabee went so far as to thank the elite media for doing something he didn’t think could be done; they united the Republican Party with their attacks on Governor Palin.

As Governor Palin enters fully into the fall campaign for Vice President, I have been seeing more and more comments being made that she is out of her place and shouldn’t be running in the first place, simply because she has a family that is growing up and a little baby boy who has Down Syndrome. I have read comments saying she is a very poor example to our children, simply because her daughter, Bristol, is now pregnant. Their logic says Sarah Palin must be a bad mother, simply because her daughter did not do what she taught her to do. Surely, if she had been the mother she needed to be, Bristol wouldn’t be in the shape she is in right now. Some of the comments, I can not repeat because of the vulgarity involved.

There is one thing about this situation I simply can not understand. We have Sarah Palin, a solid conservative who will fight for conservative values, someone who has excited the Republican base greater than anyone since Ronald Reagan. Yet for a mistake made by her daughter, some social conservatives are ready to throw her under the bus and say she isn’t fit to be in office and they would rather stay at home on November 4 or write in God as a candidate. I still contend that to do so is to surely hand the White House to the most liberal Presidential candidate this country has ever seen.

I am sure Sarah Palin is not perfect. She will probably tell you she has made plenty of mistakes, both in her political career and in raising her family, but I have news for all of us. That is no different than the rest of us. We have all made mistakes and can see a lot of things we should have done different in raising our families, but to say Governor Palin is not worthy to be in office because of her so-called failings as a mother is laying it on a little thick, don’t you think?

In making the decision about which ticket to vote for or whether to even vote at all, let’s keep Matthew 23:24 in mind.

Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

We can espouse all sorts of rhetoric about family values and the like, but the decision on November 4 really comes down to a basic choice. We need to consider carefully if we are willing to put Barack Obama in a position to do our country great harm, just to prove a point about our disagreements with John McCain or Sarah Palin. If we stay at home in protest or do anything that takes a vote away from John McCain, then that is exactly what we are doing.

That’s my take!

Larry

Hey Larry, we must always be reminded to look at our own lives. However, we cannot stop there. Family values is not mere rhetoric. That’s for the mom who can’t miss the opp to make a speech and risks her baby’s life to make a speech. That’s for the mom who has three underage children who plans for the extended family to take care of them cause she’s going to Washington and the world, all with the blessings of Jesus. Show me those who helped Jesus, and I’ll show you no mothers neglecting their homes. The demise of real family values is why we are dealing with not just social ills, but all types of ills. The home is the nucleus and nexus for life, spiritually and naturally. And, Palin is just not up to par politically. She didn’t know what the VP did until recently, and as of this weekend, demonstrated that she did not have a clue about the mortgage industry and its two major mortgage providers, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and what kind of burden a govt. takeover would put on taxpayers. So everything else aside, we don’t need a catastrophe with an unprepared Vice President. I don’t think it’s merely about a mistake her daughter made. Palin has been quite vocal about how to handle the mistakes of other people who deal with teen pregnancy and all of the compassion in the world does not undue her hypocrisy. So, she needs to stay in Alaska and do what mothers do, take care of their underage children. We don’t see mothers in politics with underage children PLANNING to conveniently neglect their young. If our words are cruel, her children’s reality will be crueler. http://www.mulloverthis.wordpress.com

I am changing my vote for Obama to McCain after hearing Governor Palin’s speech and I am amazed at the audacity of the Democratic Party and the Media.

For so many years they have been pushing equal rights for women and said absolutely NOTHING when Hillary was disrespected and mocked in front of the entire nation and then overlooked for VP nomination.

And now? They ridicule the one woman, Sarah Palin, who actually has a chance to hold the second highest office in the world. And look at Hillary. She’s moping around answering “yes sir” to Mr. Obama while listening to Tammy Wynette recordings after all. Stand by your man Hillary. What a sell out you turned out to be!

  3. Larry says:

    mulloverthis,

From reading your blog, I can see you are a supporter of Barack Obama, so I would suppose it would be natural for you to disagree with my views on Sarah Palin.

It is easy for any of us to say what Sarah Palin should have done when in Texas and was getting close to delivering her Trig. The fact is, however, that she was in contact with her doctor and I am sure she was following his advice. Who are we to say she should have done things different.

It is also very easy for you and anyone else to stand back and offer a critique of how Sarah Palin should take care of her family. How can you say she is not doing it in the way it needs to be done? Just because Bristol is pregnant does not make her a bad mother. I can show you more than one mother who thought they were keeping very close tabs on their children and it turned out they didn’t know half of what they were up to.

If you want my opinion, I commend Sarah Palin for showing her daughter the support she needs at this time and I say again, just because Bristol has made a mistake does not mean her mother is bad and should stay at home.

I would also ask you this. I realize Michelle Obama is not running for President, but she is campaigning every day for Barack Obama. They have two young children. Do you think they are being neglected by their parents being on the campaign trail so much?

  4. Larry says:

    Jill G,

The only way they want equal rights for women is if it is a liberal woman. A true conservative like Sarah Palin gets in the running and they get all shook up.

  5. mulloverthis says:

Jill G., Hilary was mistreated in the media. Palin’s criticisms beyond the gossip over who’s the baby’s mama, are more than fair game. I don’t advocate anyone voting for Hilary or Palin simply b/c they are women, anymore than Black people should be voting for Barack simply because he is Black. Palin in patently unqualified, and all the attempts to act like she is, is ridiculous. Palin and Hilary are not comparable by any means. So, like all Americans, we are free to vote for exactly who we want to vote for.
BTW, Larry, apparantly you haven’t read my blog, b/c I am not for Obama. And, I’d hope that you wouldn’t dismiss informed discussion b/c you choose to clump all dissenters into a liberal box. Palin has some real issues, the lack of fundamental knowledge of Fannie MAE and Freddie Mac, being some of the latest. So go ahead and we’ll all be praying that John McCain lives the full term should he happen to beat Obama, in the event that Americans continue to support a woman with a smile and lipstick who knows nothing about the issues other than she is pro-life. http://www.mulloverthis.wordpress.com

  6. mulloverthis says:

Larry, as for my criticism of Palin as a mother, it is clear that you haven’t ready my blog. The fact that Palin’s daughter got herself pregnant is not the issue, per se. However, Palin and all the blind-sighted supporters need not try to make her duck and not give any accountability for her so-called policies concerning pregnant teens, and their abstinence-only education, b/c now this issue has hit her home. She and her policies have hit the homes of Alaskans, and now her situation is fair game. As for Michele Obama and the campaign trail: Mrs. Michele Obama reputedly is home every couple of days to tend to her young minor girls, when they are not on the trail with either parent. Mind you, the campaign will end in less than 60 days, not four years. Let me go further since you asked. Hilary Clinton mothered Chelsea Clinton. They did not spend years in separate households for her mom to pursue a career out of one side of her mouth and talk about Jesus and family values on the other. Hilary’s only child was fully grown, had a college degree, and a job for years before she bid to be all things to all men as the US President. Biden lost a wife and daughter. He had two sons living in a different state. Well, when Biden, a father did what real fathers do–take care of their children–he commuted between DE and DC DAILY. Obama’s kids will be like the typical White House Children–have an available stable mother and the presence of a father in the same household. Remember, Palin is not the liberal irresponsible politician, at least by words out of her mouth. Show me Jesus and any other Bible mothers choosing a career or “calling” with them having young children, and I’ll repent. Finally, I can stand back and say whatever I desire simply b/c Palin and too many women like her want to make decisions for other people’s families, but then want privacy and boo hoo sympathy when it comes to their own. She’s a hypocrite along with a lot of other women who want protections as mothers, and then want to conveniently not be mothers when they feel like it. Judges and family court magistrates make decisions about parenting, career choices every day. This and more is well laid out at http://www.mulloverthis.wordpress.com. Thanks for the opp to share!

  7. Larry says:

    mulloverthis,

I apologize if I made and incorrect assumption that you are supporting Barack Obama. From reading the first several posts on your blog, it certainly seemed that way to me.

I still take exception to the way you and others are hammering on Sarah Palin about her family. From watching her interact with them on the campaign trail, it doesn’t seem to me they are being neglected at all. How is she not being a mother when she feels like it? Just because she is pro-life and believes abortion is wrong, does not make her someone who is trying to run other people’s life’s. It’s not about choice, but about murder. The murder of innocent human beings that are having their basic human rights taken away because their mother thought it was inconvenient to bear the pregnancy.

As for abstinence only education, what is wrong with teaching children they need to abstain from sex until marriage? Read this post to see what I am talking about. http://myviewmytake.wordpress.com/2008/08/16/thoughts-about-barack-obamas-statement-on-abortion/

On her knowledge of the issues, I believe she has a fair amount of knowledge. I have seen a couple of interviews that she has done, before she was running for VP and I felt like she had a grasp of the issues she was talking about. If there is more, I am sure she can learn.

I honestly believe her family is off limits to the discussion of her as VP. Her daughter has made a mistake and it just seems to me a lot of people are trying to destroy her creditability because of that. That isn’t fair play, in my opinion. It sounds to me like you are applying different standards to Sarah Palin than you are applying to other women politicians.

  8. Larry says:

    mulloverthis,

What kind of sex education would you prefer Sarah Palin to support? From what I can see about her stance on this issue, she has said the explicit sex education programs would not have her support. Is it so wrong that she wants to promote abstinence? Just because her daughter is pregnant doesn’t make this any less true.

  9. Norwin says:

What about a guy who predicts this current swing back to conservative values that includes a conservative female who is brunette and younger than Hillary in the White House? I was amazed when Freiman’s prediction came true. http://www.gafreiman.com

  10. When John McCain articulated his pro-life stance, he stood head and shoulders above the competition. McCain delivered. McCain also delivered a pro-life running mate, who puts her money where her mouth is. That these two will standup and call a spade a spade is truly electrifying. They’re standing up, and we get it. Anyone who claims to be for women’s rights, but not for the rights of unborn men and women, is a member of a shrinking political movement. On the light side, Global Warming is a hoax. It was Sarah Palin’s proximity to the arctic region that caused all that snowmelt. The woman is on fire. She’s a winner. Here’s a clip from Jan & Dean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX7X4FovYRA&NR=1 And, don’t forget them Dems: http://theseedsof9-11.com

  11. preacherpen says:

If you listen and adhere to the “news” gained from liberal media, you would never elect Governor Sarah Palin for any office. According to them, this woman can’t do anything right, is a poor mother and has no experience. How sad.

Thankfully, there are sources of information which allows anyone who wants to be fair-minded, that give a more balanced look at this incredible woman. She does have executive experience and has real-life experience, too. She is tenacious, and will prove herself to be a woman of integrity and class. If you would like, there is a short post on my blog about her: http://preacherpen.wordpress.com/2008/09/04/bulldogs-and-lipstick/

She is worthy and is a wonderful pick for VP.

Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.”

This is exactly what half the Democrats in this country are fighting AGAINST. People who like to involve Christianity in politics. It’s great that you love your religion, we all do, but please leave it out of the political debates. AMERICA IS MADE UP OF MANY DIFFERENT RACES AND RELIGIONS!!! And those of us who AREN’T Christian are sick of being led by a president who tries to squeeze his religion in at every possible opportunity. McCain will do the same, and in the event that this 72 year old man cannot make it through his four-year term, his replacement will be preaching those same Christian values.

  13. Larry says:

I would have to disagree with you about John McCain squeezing his religion at every possible opportunity. If you look at his record, you will see that is not the way he operates. Never has and never will.

I am fully aware that America has a lot of different races and religions between her borders and I am not necessarily advocating a candidate to bring religion into the political debate. However, if a candidate isn’t influenced by his or her religion, then it isn’t much of a religion, in my opinion.

In actuality, I really believe our country has entirely too much religion and not enough salvation of the soul. If it were the other way around, then things may be different.

  14. Sheila says:

Yes, Sarah Palin revitalized the Republican party, because why? Can she walk walk and talk the talk of all that Christian faith? I have never seen a so-called Christian embroiled in so much rumor and inuendo. The news and rumors started on saintly Sarah Palin and her family of fallen teenagers way before her nomination for VP. Believe me, in this day and age, the truth will come to the forefront. I didn’t hear you Christians taking up for John Edwards during his fall from good grace. You all better get ready to shelter Sarah from the rath of the American public when the truth comes to the light. Sarah lies and until she tells the truth she will not be set free from the scruitany of the press.

  15. Larry says:

    Shelia,

If you have some proof of this so-called “truth”, then let’s have it. If all you are doing is trying to spread rumors and lies about Sarah Palin, without any proof, then you can stop trying to comment on my blog. Either put up or shut up.

  16. Thea says:

    Larri,

Are you watching the news? And I mean real news, not Fox News and not Rush Lumpy! Sarah Palin and her husband are embroiled in an investigation; Sarah Palin’s children and dis-funtional! If you blog is so popular you think you can dictate who and what is said here, why don’t you have anyone else agreeing with you? Don’t worry, I won’t post here again, it’s a lost subject as you can see by the responses you’ve received. OBAMA/BIDEN 08

  17. Larry says:

    Thea,

For your information, I do not have a TV and I very seldom listen to Rush Limbaugh. What real news would you be suggesting I watching, CNN, MSNBC, etc.? They are just some of the media who is trying to shove Barack Obama down our throats.

I know all about the investigation you are talking about and if you would open your eyes, you would see the real reason Walt Monegan was fired, ie. because he was going behind Governor Palin’s back and against her budget reforms.

Explain to me why you think Sarah Palin’s children are dysfunctional? Because Bristol is pregnant? I am certainly not taking up for the girl getting herself in that shape, but at least she is trying to take responsibility for her actions. How does that make her dysfunctional?

I have never said my blog is so popular, but when it comes right down to it, I can dictate who comments and what is said on My Take. It is my blog, after all. That being said, I do not refuse to post peoples comments who disagree with what I have to say. If you would take time to browse through the comments, you would see there are plenty of people who both agree and disagree with my views.

I do not discourage you from commenting, but I will tell you the same thing I told Sheila. If you have proof of what you say, then have at it. If not, then kindly do not use my blog to rant about something that you can not prove. Put up or shut up.

  18. Sheila says:

Larry: First, you misspelled my name, so back at you. Second, I did not spread any lies about Sarah Palin; she is embroiled in an investigation which alleges she abused her authority to fire the police commissioner; her daughter, Bristol, is pregnant and the teenage father of the baby had a my space site in which he pretty much describe himself. Sarah Palin has lied about the bridge to nowhere, her record as a governor, and too many other discrepancies to list. All truths. The truth hurts, don’t it? I won’t be back either, I agree with Thea, it’s boring in here.

    BARACK OBAMA 2008

  19. Gary says:

Well, I can give Bristol points for one thing, at least she is going to kill her baby, or unborn fetus as the pro choice people like to call it.

  20. Larry says:

    Sheila,
First of all, the misspelling of your name was purely unintentional. I get a bit dyslexic at times. I have corrected that, along with several misspelled words in your comment.

How many times do I have to tell people, Sarah Palin had every right to fire Walt Monegan. He was going behind her back and against her budget reforms. Did he expect her to just roll over and play dead when he was going against her orders as Governor?

It is no secret that Bristol Palin is pregnant, we’ve been through all of that already. I am sure her parents wish she had not done it, but they are trying to make the best possible outcome out of a bad situation. What else can they do? As Gary said, at least she isn’t going to kill the baby. As for the father, are you referring to that stupid video some young African American has put up about him being the father of Bristol’s baby? I would wager the real reason he has that video up is to draw attention to himself and his urban rap career. The whole thing smells like one big advertisement to me.

If you will take time to watch Part 2 of the interview with Charlie Gibson, you will find that she explains the bridge to nowhere very well.

So far, I still have yet to see any proof of the accusations you are throwing around, so I stand by my view that Sarah Palin will make a good Vice President.

Be careful what you wish for in Obama/Biden. You may get more than you bargained for.

  21. Dominique says:

    Shelia

In reference to your comment: “the truth will come to the forefront.”

How about we deal with truth. Barack Obama -whom I am surmising you are supporting from your exaggerated rants – has repeatedly lied in this election cycle.

First, he repeatedly states he does not support infanticide. That has been repeatedly proven by various sources to be false. He does support infanticide.

Second, he falsely attacked the McCain campaign concerning the 527 Gianna Jensen ad. McCain had nothing to do with that ad yet Obama accused him of a “despicable lie.”

Third, Obama declares he will bring change. Why don’t you Google community organizer and Obama and Chicago and take a look at what “Change” looks like when Obama gets finished with it.

Fourth, Palin’s daughter – after making a mistake – chooses to be responsible and accepts the consequences of her action because she views the child she is carrying as a gift. Obama’s daughter, will abort the child because they see it as punishment.

Fifth, Obama is yelling from the roof tops, “bring our troops home now,” yet on his trip to Iran, he was asking the Iraqi’s to delay the troops return so he could benefit politically.

And I could go on and on and on!

Open your eyes and ears girl. Obama the pied piper played his tune and you have been sucked in. Obama is being completely deceitful. He has been repeatedly quoted as saying, “All I have to do to win this election, is get the people to respond “emotionally.” In other words, he doesn’t want you to think, he wants you to feel because then he knows you won’t take the time to really digest what he is saying or understand how negatively it will affect you and every other American.

One last thing. I am sure your mother told you, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything.” Larry has put a lot of time, effort, and passion into his blog. He has done a great job. If you don’t like it, then go find a blog you do like and rant as much as you want.

  22. preacherpen says:

Dominique, well done. It amazes me, but shouldn’t, how vitriolic Senator Obama’s supporters can be. I certainly don’t dissuade a discussion with differing views, but being ugly just isn’t called for.

The reality is, though, if I had to support the good Illinois senator, perhaps I would be a little ill, too. You pointed out so many of the things wrong with the Obama/Biden ticket.

One more thing. When I was in the military, we were taught to never speak against our commanders in public, and that’s proper. Those with a left bias evidently haven’t heard of those values. It’s amazing how nasty some of them can be.
