Mumbai finally quite after 62 hours of terror

After a siege of 62 hours, the battle for the Taj Mahal Hotel appears to be over, although the Indian National Security Guard (NSG) is still searching the hotel for explosives and other terrorists. The death toll from the attacks, which began on Wednesday night, has risen to nearly 200 and it is feared more bodies will be found, as the NSG continues it’s search of the Taj Mahal Hotel. From The Daily Excelsior:

The operation to flush out terrorists from Taj hotel is over, signalling an end to the 62-hour siege by terrorists three of whom were killed this morning in an assault by the elite commandos of National Security Guards (NSG).

However, the NSG is still sanitising the hotel to check if any remaining terrorist or explosive is still in the 400-room hotel, NSG Director General J K Dutt told reporters.

“The commandos killed three terrorists after intense gun-battle inside the hotel,” Dutt said.

The question that I am sure remains in the minds of the Indian people and most of the world is just who is behind these attacks. Some Indian officials have been quick to point the finger of blame at Pakistan and of course, Pakistan has been just as quick to deny any and all charges. It may take some fancy diplomatic footwork to prevent tensions between the two countries from escalating any higher. This diplomacy will certainly be hampered by their willingness to blame each other for any violence in the region. Hopefully, level heads will prevail in both countries, because the last thing that region or the world needs is India and Pakistan staring down a nuclear barrel at each other, with some hothead just itching to pull the trigger.

That’s my take!
