Mitt Romney drops out

Thursday, February 7, 2008
By LD Jackson

This is another quick post from work.  Mitt Romney has dropped out of the Republican race for President.  Speculation has him endorsing McCain, but there is not official word on that, as of 12:10 PM CST.  Go here for more details.

This development may leave an opening for conservatives to rally around the only true conservative that is in the race, Mike Huckabee.  It should be interesting, to say the least.

That’s my take!

2 things here. What happens to the delegates that Romney has?

Also, Romney dropping out proves something to me. He was only in this for one thing and that was the power that would be his as President. When he saw he had no chance of winning, he’s gone. Mike Huckabee is a different story. Even though he is behind in delegates, he is going to try and see this thru to the end, hoping he can do some good at the convention. I truly believe that Mike Huckabee cares what happens to this country and the Republican party.

From what I understand, Romney actually “suspended” his campaign. This allows him to keep the delegates he has and I am sure he will try to use them to his advantage at the convention. Someone with more knowledge about this may chime in.

I think you are right, Gary. Huckabee does care about the future of our country, but he has said before, he isn’t tied to the Republican party. I think he said “I don’t spell GOD GOP”. That is very fitting, especially the way some of the Republican party establishment has treated him during the campaign.

Hi Larry – congrats on your blog moving into the top 10! That makes 3 Huckabee bloggers in that group now, pretty cool.

Thanks, Kerry. It seems like it jumped up there overnight. I never dreamed I would get this many vistors on my blog.
