Mike Huckabee’s speech at the Republican National Convention

I just finished watching Mike Huckabee speak at the Republican National Convention and in doing so, was reminded why I first supported him for President. The man can really give a speech.

Right out of the gate, he said he wanted to thank the elite media for doing something he wasn’t sure could be done, in uniting the Republican party with their attacks on Sarah Palin. He said the attacks have been very tacky, more so than a costume change a a Madonna concert. To be honest, I am glad he brought the attacks up. It probably will not do any good, but at least someone is calling them out on the low blows they are throwing in Palin’s direction.

Of course, the speech was supposed to be about the McCain/Palin ticket and Huckabee didn’t disappoint, as usual. Following up on Fred Thompson’s speech last night, Huckabee laid out very well how John McCain has already given much for our country and is ready to give more.

One really good moment was when Huckabee was telling a story about a school teacher in Little Rock and how she taught her students about earning a desk in her school room. Through the entire school day, the students had to stand up because they couldn’t tell her how to earn a school desk. At the end of the day, she went to the door and had several veterans carry the desks in and set them up in neat rows. She then informed the students they didn’t have to earn the desks because the veterans had already earned the desks for them. There was more than one tear in the house.

Watching the speech made me a little sad that Mike Huckabee is not our nominee, but it made me also realize how much we need to support John McCain and Sarah Palin. We may not see things eye to eye with them, but they are certainly better than Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

That’s my take!
