I'm with ya on Huck. He indeed was the only Republican who got it about the economy. The rest seem stuck in the delusional corporate/country club GOP thinking that "free-trading" with countries paying employees next to nothing and subsidizing their industries somehow strengthens America. What would we do if we got into a major conflict right now and China were to cut us off? He's truly "country first"
Huck also is a good example of what the GOP needs right now--the ability to be socially conservative but in a non-threatening way that does not send independents and democrats screaming "theocrat." It's ironic that a former pastor is the one who's best able to do that isn't it?
How about this: Huckabee 2012, Restoring government to the people: honesty, competency, effectiveness.
Well,you get the idea

We are in the same boat there. I can not, for the life of me, figure out why we passed on people like Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, and Sam Brownback.

I surely like Huck and would have preferred him to McCain. But we had several excellent choices in the charisma department that we passed by for reasons I cannot fathom.

Tam,
I don't think I have heard him blame the Libertarian wing of the Republican Party. He does say that part of the reasons we lost so badly in this election is what he calls "faux conservatives", who he says are social liberals and fiscal conservatives, which is more akin to libertarians. I didn't really think he was blaming the Libertarians for all that is wrong in the Republican Party. Have you heard him say something different?

I really think Huckabee would have beaten Obama, for many reasons. I would even have supported him because of the FairTax. Now however, I don't think I could ever support him. He has on more than one occasion blames the libertarian wing of the party for the problems. I might have been able to over-look that, but he distorts their views in the same way his record (and the FairTax) was distorted. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and accept the distortion is not deliberate but an honest misunderstanding... but still, I can't support that. And how does he expect to grow the party when he wants to make the tent smaller?

Great post, Larry.

I can't tell you how many times I was listening to McCain thinking, "It should have been Mike." Regardless of policies, Obama is a charismatic guy. McCain's not. Huckabee is.

I haven't said anything about the book, either. I'm planning to get my copy tonight, and I'll more to say then. I'd like to think that a lot of Republicans are regretting what they did to Huckabee in the primaries ... a few have come out (even Michelle Malkin, didn't she?), more should.

[...] Mike Huckabee–Doing The Right Thing I have refrained from writing an article about Mike Huckabee and the release of his new book, “Do The Right Thing”, simply because I have yet to read the book. From the excerpts I have read, it appears Huckabee was honest in telling us about his campaign and how it all went down, from taking his campaign from darkhorse, to winning eight states, to finally bowing out after the Texas loss to John McCain. The release of the book and his subsequent book tour has led a lot of blogger, pundits, etc. to speculate that Huckabee is already mounting his Presidential campaign for 2012. It remains to be seen if that is actually true, whether he will actually run again, but it amazes me at the resistance I am already seeing against the man. Yes, he does have a lot of supporters, more than most people would give him credit for, but he also has his detractors and most of them simply do not want Mike Huckabee to run for President. During his run for the nomination in 2008, Mike Huckabee was accused of a lot of things and he was asked a lot of questions that were never asked of [...] [...]
