Mike Huckabee can win and he can beat the Democrats
When Mike Huckabee first entered the race for President, his biggest drawback, aside from the money issue, was the notion that he was not electable. As he began to rise in the polls, that was the biggest issue he had to fight, even among the very people who should have been supporting him. I believe the line went something like “I like Huckabee, but he can’t win”. Well, have you noticed the polls lately? Rasmussen has him in 1st place nationally and his lead in Iowa has went to double digits.
Now that the people of the Republican party seem to be realizing who Mike Huckabee is and what his message is, CNN and other liberal news organizations are coming out with polls that suggest Huckabee can not beat the Democrats, even if he wins the Republican nomination. Matt Drudge even has a story that tries to suggest the Democrats are withholding any and all attacks on Huckabee because they believe he would be an easy target in the general election. That story supposedly came straight from the Democrats but there is evidence that the Romney campaign was the one that sent the story, and I use that term loosely, to Drudge.
So, where does Huckabee stand? Now that he is surging, not only in Iowa, but across the nation, his opponents would like us to believe he simply can not be elected. They have been saying it all along and I suppose they will continue to naysay the notion of a Huckabee presidency. I say it’s only true if we let it be true. We can elect Mike Huckabee, no matter what we are told.
That’s my take!
Larry

For the record … the GOP wanted Bill Clinton nominated in 1992 because he’d be easy prey. The Dems wanted GWB in 2000 for the same reason. As I understand it, the GOP wanted Jimmy Carter in 1976 as an easy target.
Even in the (profoundly unlikely) event that this story is true, people should remember that the other side is often wrong in these things.
Moreover … if I was a Democratic operative, maybe I’d say of our “worst nightmare” that we think he’s “easy prey,” hoping that you won’t nominate him …
I loved those new numbers out of Iowa yesterday! The “establishment”is bothered because “we the people” are not doing what they tell us to do (same thing happened with Ronald Reagan). They can’t BUY Mike Huckabee, so they can’t CONTROL him. I find it refreshing to have a candidate that listens to, and speaks for, the people. I am also greatly encouraged that the American people are clearly declaring their disgust with “establishment” candidates.
As far as “Drudge” goes, other than people in the media and news junkies, most Americans probably do not even know who Drudge is.
Gomer Pyle doesn’t even know what the NIE is and does not believe in evolution but he is going to be President? lol
Huckleberry doesn’t have a chance in Heaven. The “glass jaw” will be easily shattered by Hillary. He has no idea what is in store. The NYT story is the least of his worries. They want him to get the nomination because he is such a soft-target.
Johnny,
For someone who has a glass jaw, Huckabee is taking the beating pretty good. Everyone from the Club for Growth on down has taken a swing at him and he is still in the race and is gaining ground every day. I don’t think he is doing so badly and I personally think he is the only Republican with a chance against the Democrats.
Gasdocpol,
You continue to bring up the NIE report and I keep telling you it is not an issue. You need to find another argument. If you can’t I will not continue to allow you to comment. I do not mind you disagreeing with me, but all you are doing is making fun of Huckabee and can not defend your position.
yeah. i agree. he is the only one with the chance to beat the dems… giuliani and romney are two steps away from democrats… so why would you vote for them in a general election when you could just vote for barack and get the whole package.

It’s worth remembering that Gov. Huckabee has been up against the Clintons in elections before — and he’s won. They’ve come back to run for all of his opponents.
Do you really think that they have anything on him that they haven’t used? Profoundly unlikely …
Good luck with Huckabee. I apologize for being so rude.
Not a problem, Gasdocpol. I hope you will continue to visit my blog.
