Huckabee and faith and politics
A lot has been said, especially of late, about Mike Huckabee’s faith and how it does/will affect his campaign and hopefully, his presidency. Before I get into this article, let me say I do not include Huckabee and President Bush in the same class. They are completely different men, even if both of them say they are Christians. Do not give me the argument that we have already had a Christian as President.
So many times, I have had comments made on my blog and seen the same comments on other blogs, such as “we don’t need a Christian ramming his beliefs down our throats”. I know one man personally, who has said Huckabee has no business running for public office, since he was called to pastor. I like and respect this man, but I have to disagree. We need a President like Huckabee, who will make his decisions based on morality and faith, instead of immorality and money. We have had enough of that kind of decision making already.
CNN’s John King has a very good article about Huckabee’s faith and his politics. He has a quote from Huckabee that says:
“I put my head on the pillow and I just want to make sure that the father above is pleased,” Huckabee told CNN when a recent interview turned to the subject of his his faith influences his politics. “In essence, I can say that I have one client I have to please.”
You can call Huckabee a religious fanatic all you want, but he is not trying to ram his beliefs down anyone’s throat. He knows the difference between his religion and his politics and he knows they each have their place. For instance, this past Sunday, Huckabee preached in a South Carolina church and he said:
“I am here today to talk about Jesus and not to talk about me,”
Huckabee is open about his faith and he says it defines his politics. I ask this question. Why is that a bad thing? We have an open homosexual (maybe more than one) as a United States Representative. We have had pedophiles in the same House of Representatives, at least one of them a Republican. We have had very immoral people who have done some very disgraceful things as President, both publicly and privately. Everyone else has had their chance. What is wrong with having a true, believing Christian as President and electing Mike Huckabee? Think about it.
That’s my take!

Huckabee’s record on taxes is abysmal. Someone’s Christian faith is not the only reason to vote for a candidate, although it should definitelly contribute to the reason. Look at Pres. Bush, he ran on a faith based platform and look at the increase in the size of government since he’s been in office! Ron Paul is the only candidate running who has the faith, beliefs, and history to back up what he says.
Faciamus,
To start with, I did not say Huckabee’s faith was the only reason I supported him. To me, that is the icing on the cake. I would disagree with you about Huckabee’s record on taxes. You need to take a look at the records and at the liberal state he was charged with governing. Also, I stated in my opening paragraph that they were not in the same class, in my honest opinion.
His quote bothers me to a certain extent: “I put my head on the pillow and I just want to make sure that the father above is pleased,” Huckabee told CNN when a recent interview turned to the subject of his his faith influences his politics. “In essence, I can say that I have one client I have to please.”
As someone who advocates limitted government, I am afraid that he may support legislating morality or other things “for our own good”. However, I have that concern with anyone but Ron Paul.
I do think his strong faith will factor in what programs he supports, but I can’t see how that is any worse then any other president who may not be influenced by their faith, but still support big government…
