Email Gary Bauer
Below is a copy of the email I have just sent Mr. Bauer. His email address is gary.bauer@mail.amvalues.org. Maybe he needs to hear from all of us.
That’s my take!
Larry
Mr. Bauer,Would you please stop asking people like Mike Huckabee to drop out of the presidential race? If you would take a good, hard look at Mike and how he stands on the issues and how he connects to the regular people, you would see he is the only true conservative. He may not remind you of Ronald Reagan, but we do not need another Reagan. He is in the past. Mike Huckabee is in the future. If people like you would stop supporting candidates that do not actually reflect the way Christians stand on the issues, Mike Huckabee would have a lot better chance of winning. Actually, he has a lot better chance already, at least a lot more than you give him credit for.–
Respectfully yours,
Larry Jackson

An email exchange w/ Gary Bauer:
Gary,
I did not mean to imply that you specifically asked Mike to exit the race. He would however be caught up in your grouping of “lower tiered candidates.” I’m not sure how one earns that classification. Mr. Romney would have us believe that the top tier should be based on money. The main stream media would have us believe that it should be based on celebrity, as that is how they allocate their coverage. I believe that a “top tier” classification should be based on ideas, issues and inspiration. Anyone who has heard Mike Huckabee speak should know he belongs in the top tier of candidates. I agree with you that there are some candidates who should consider leaving the race. Mike Huckabee isn’t one of them. Perhaps you can clear up this misunderstanding by voicing your opinion that he is in the top tier and not one of the candidates you were referring to. It is way to early to condemn a great candidate due to perceived issues of electability. Enjoy your lunch with Mike!

RE: Mike Huckabee
Why do you think I asked Mike Huckabee to drop out of the race? What is your source? I have said in interviews that as long as there are six candidates competing for conservative votes, Giuliani will win with his 28%. That would be tragic. At some point, lower tiered candidates will have to drop out. If it is too late in the process, we will all lose. But I have never asked Mike Huckabee to drop out. I have had long conversations with Mike Huckabee and agree with him on most issues. I am scheduled to have lunch with him tomorrow again. As of now, I haven’t endorsed anyone. I am trying to move all the candidates in our direction.

If you would take a good, hard look at Mike and where he stands on the issues and how he connects to the regular people, you would see he is the only true conservative. If you want to see more of Fred Thompson, may I suggest watching re-runs of Law and Order. He has nothing to offer the American people. Perhaps you should request that he leave the race. When that happens and Mike starts picking up some key endorsements from Dr. Dobson, Newt Gingrich, etc. he will easily overtake Giuliani. If people like you would stop supporting candidates that do not actually reflect the way Christians stand on the issues, Mike Huckabee would have a lot better chance of winning. I hope Mr. Bauer has some good things to say about Mike Huckabee, after his lunch. I guess it just seems so clear to me that I can’t understand why Mr. Bauer is not already behind Mike. It seems so simple.
