Bauer’s response

Below is the reply I received from Gary Bauer to an email I sent him, questioning him about his contention that the second tier candidates should drop out of the race. Please use the email address in my first post about this and ask him to refrain from making such comments.
Larry, I have simply said that the longer there are 6 people competing for conservative votes, Giuliani wins. I don’t want a Giuliani vs. Hillary race.
My response to him was that was the reason I was supporting Mike Huckabee, so I would not be faced with the choice of voting for the lesser of two evils later. If that comes about, I am not sure I would even vote.
That’s my take!
Larry

I have to tell you, when the first blush of the presidential frenzy began, there was Tommy Thompson (not Fred) and Mike Huckabee that stood out among the herd to me. But then again, I am not so much a follower but someone that does the research themselves. What I liked about Tommy was his crazy idea that we should let the Iraqis decide if we should be there or not through a national Iraqi vote. I thought that was a good display of common sense. But Mike Huckabee aligns with my beliefs more than any other candidate.
Now, when there are people that say support someone that can actually win, it makes me laugh! If enough people actually read and listen for themselves, I think that there would be more and more people interested in Mike. But it is appalling to me that the media has Huckaphobia! He must REALLY be threatening to them for them to continually ignore him. What are they afraid of? Is true conservatism enough to make them move to France? We can only hope! But even if Mike is elected, he may still have to deal with the likes of Barbara Boxer! He is not trying to establish a theocracy…like he could anyway. It is just pure FEAR and the media’s own realization of their own collective moral bankruptcy at work here. It is hard to report on something that you are full of fear and guilt over, isn’t it?
Hi Larry – I’m impressed he answered you. I just think he maybe needs to be more specific instead of making a statement that the “2nd tier” needs to go. That’s a media conceived label, so I think he still needs to make a better stand – especially since he speaks as a Values Voter.
Have a great Thursday!
Amanda,
You have made my point better than I could. I have never heard so much about elect-ability in all of my life. If we will support the candidates who reflect our values, they will have all the elect-ability they need.
hi larry,
your blog and your letter inspired me. i sent a letter off to gary bauer as well. i also received a similar response. (i’ve posted it on my blog)
i’m with you on the electability issue. if we all voted for the canidate that reflected our values….huckabee would be a shoe-in. he simply needs more exposure and buzz. the media isn’t terribly cooperative in that department, so it’s gonna take some work on our part….and alot of prayer! once people learn about mike, he will stand on his own merits, and people will support him. we’ve just gotta continue to get the word out, and keep the media and leaders honest.
thanks for your blog. it’s inspiring, informative and encouraging. keep up the good work!!
Thanks for the kind remarks about my blog. I haven’t been doing this very long, but it is something I have wanted to do.
You are right. We need to get the word out. If we can do that, Mike Huckabee will have no problem standing on his own merits.
I have a feeling that lots of people have the position of Bauer … they will end up holding their nose and voting for one of the candidates the “main stream media” promotes, thus “less than two evils” philosophy. I agree with you, that if people will dig a little, and discover what Mike Huckabee is all about, he would leap to the top of the GOP ticket very quickly. Keep spreading the word!
You are so right, Chris. With all the talk about Christian values, it looks like our Christian leaders could see past all the other candidates and take a good look at Mike Huckabee and how he stands. It seems, however, they have blinders on and can’t see the forest for the trees. Time after time, I have read comments and articles stating how well Mike Huckabee was liked and they would support him, if only he had money, traction, or elect ability. It looks like they could see they are the ones that could give him the very things he needs to get elected with. They need to get off the fence and stand for what they say they believe in.
