More foot in mouth for Michael Steele and the RNC

Do you ever get the feeling that some things are just not meant to be or not for the best? I don’t know about you, but I am beginning to get that feeling about the Republican National Committee (RNC) and Michael Steele. When he was campaigning for the position of Chairman, many people tried to point the way to a better candidate, but despite his fundraising and spending record with his own PAC, Steele somehow managed to squeak out a victory. Since then, it has been one gaffe right after another.

Okay, Michael Steele is getting paid by the RNC to organize it’s activities, promote good Republican candidates, raise money, etc. Evidently, that isn’t enough because he also goes around making speeches and drawing compensation for them. No problem there, just a fella making a little side money. However, he is supposed to be watching the chicken coop and it appears he isn’t doing a very good job of that. Maybe he is more concerned with his personal business than he is with the business of electing Republicans to Congress? Just a thought, but one that bears mentioning.

In the last few days alone, it has came to light that the RNC reimbursed a donor for expenses at a Los Angeles topless club and now CNN is reporting

RNC Pole Dance

RNC Pole Dance - Bruce Plante

that a recent fundraising mailer contained a phone number that dialed a telephone sex hotline. Clearly, this was a simple typographical error and the RNC never meant for their donors to call the wrong phone number. It does however, point out something for the umpteenth time. The RNC is floundering and a lot of it has to do with the leadership of one Michael Steele. That’s why I included Bruce Plante’s latest editorial cartoon, as it speaks volumes to the topic at hand.

In seven months, we will be having a very important mid-term election and we have the RNC and Steele himself running around with no direction. You would think they would see the importance of these elections, but they evidently do not. Answer me this question; when is the last time we have seen the RNC in the news in a positive way? That’s what I thought, it has been a long time. The only time we seem to hear about them is when they are making stupid mistakes such as these. I mean, you know they are having troubles when FOX News even has trouble finding something positive to say about them.

Personally, I wish Steele would resign and someone more competent would take his place, but I don’t see that happening before the elections. It would be an unprecedented move and would possibly do more harm than good to the Republican chances in November. Without sounding like I am beating my head on a wall, would it be too much to ask for them to at least try to get their act together? The longer they continue digging this hole, the longer it is going to take to climb back out and the more likely our chances in November will be hurt irreparably.

I still think that Steele is an undercover operative for the Whig Party.

If anyone can lose in November for the GOP, it’s Michael Steele.

The GOP had better get their act together. They might get a pass this election because most people want to slow down the Obama Express, but the climate has changed and in the future if they don’t stand for conservative principle and a leader of the party that will walk that path, they too will feel the voter discontent the Democrats are going to feel this November.

I just finished writing a post about this same topic.
I think that it is time for Michael Steele to resign, the man has turned the RNC into a joke. I am afraid that the Republicans are on the verge of blowing what should have been gains in both houses. They are on the verge of imploding and Michael Steele needs to be held accountable.

    • WKen says:

Absolutely. The GOP should have a very big year this year, partly because of the normal off-year election trending, and partly because of genuine mistakes made by the Democrats.

If anyone can blow it, though, I think that it might be Michael Steele.

Yes, I commented on Steve’s article and pointed out that Steele spends most of his time reacting to things, instead of having a plan and going after an objective. I think he gave up on the Republicans regaining any significant number of congressional seats this year and his actions reflect that.

        • Steve Dennis says:

I think that is a very accurate accessment. He does seem to spend most of his time reacting to what is going on rather than to lead the Republicans into the election. I hope that he didn’t give up on the Republicans winning a significant number of seats. Even if Republicans don’t win a significant number of seats they need to win as many as possible. He should be fighting to win as many as he can even if he does think it won’t be enough. If that is the thinking behind his actions it is remarkable that this is the man the Republicans chose to lead the RNC.
