There is not much to write about this morning that hasn’t already been discussed and in some cases, cussed about. On one hand, we have Norman Leboon arrested for making threats against Republican Eric Cantor and on the other, we have nine Michigan residents arrested for plotting to kill a police officer and then to attack his funeral. As I was browsing around this morning, different thoughts began running through my mind. Chief of those thoughts is something my wife has asked me many times, concerning this blog. Am I really doing any good with the words I write?
I was reading Gateway Pundit’s story about Norman Leboon and was struck by how the comments were trending. One or two of the commenters were raging that Leboon was just a lunatic and was not a real threat and the rest were raging at how the main stream media would not cover the story. I have no doubt I could easily find a more liberal leaning blog that would cover the Michigan militia arrests extensively and no doubt, the comments would be trending in the opposite direction of those on Gateway Pundit. It makes me question at how much good and how much change for the better we are accomplishing.
I strive to keep the conversation on Political Realities civil and I think I have
done a fairly decent job of that. For those of you who are not familiar with the behind-the-scenes workings of this blog, let me enlighten you a bit. At any given time, there several comments in the trash bin that clearly support my more conservative position on the issues. Care to venture a guess as to why they are in the trash bin, when they are on “my side” of the issues? It is because of the way the comment is worded. Some are in all caps, which is akin to shouting online and some are full of rhetoric, with very little to no substance. So, if you leave a comment that says “OBAMA DOES THIS OR THAT” or one that goes after conservatives with the same tone, suffice it to say it will never see the light of day on Political Realities.
These kinds of comments lead to nothing good and they certainly would make it very difficult, if not impossible to keep the comments civil on this blog. That is why they are in the trash and why they will continue to land there. I want Political Realities to be a place where the issues can be discussed and people can be inspired to work for change, not a place that incites violence and where rhetoric takes the place of clear thought. Some may wonder why I have allowed Mike to write on the blog, but I think that should be clear enough. Even though he and I disagree on a lot of the issues, his voice is also clear of the rhetoric that abounds so greatly in the blogsphere. Along with the fact that he writes very well, that is the biggest reason he writes on this blog.
Sorry for not having something more substantive to post this morning, but let me leave you with this. If the words Mike and I write do not make you think, then what good do we do?

I banned my first troll today. And it made me sad. But he really left me no choice, after asking him 3 times to back off on some despicable name calling and innuendo he escalated his attacks. Which is a pity because behind the vitriol he was an intelligent debater. But in the end he was more interested in trolling for insults than in debating the topic at hand.
I guess that’s how some juvenile delinquents get their jollies.
