You know I have been calling for Congress to control spending, sometimes to the point that I have a one track mind. However, you point out something very relevant. Spending does need to be controlled, but there are many who those spending cuts will hurt. Those who are on Medicare and Medicade will have to be considered.

Cuts in Medicare and Medicaid might well bring down the healthcare institutions. The unpleasant reality of the tsunami of aging Baby Boomers is upon us.

Look. I agree in principle with cutting Medicare and Medicaid. But there is a grave reality check on the horizon. How many adult children are financially able to pick up the bills for an aging parent? Not many.

I have to agree that the Democrats want no curbs on their ability to spend. They can’t induce more dependency that way, and they surely cannot repay their cronies.

Of course they don’t want an amendment that would require them to operate under a balanced budget. To do so would violate everything they hold dear.

As you have said, we need a balanced budget amendment, but it has to be written properly. If it only makes it easier to raise taxes, then I am completely against it.

To be sure, the current legislation needs some work. I am afraid you are right, in that we are not even close to being able to accept the changes that need to be implemented. There is proof of that nonacceptance all around us, every day of the year.
