Change In Commenting Policy

From the time of its creation, I have always made it a practice to reply to most, if not all, comments made on this blog. Even if it was just a short note to proclaim my agreement with the commenter, I wanted Political Realities to be a blog where everyone that visited knew that, agree or disagree, they were always welcome to read and comment. I wanted to interact as much with my readers as possible. We have had some lively discussions of disagreement and will probably have them again. However, I have came to the conclusion that I have allowed my work here to consume me. That has to change and since I have no desire to let Political Realities fall by the wayside, I have decided to make some changes, mainly in how I manage the blog and the comments that are left on the posts.

In order to allow myself to write about the issues I care deeply about and still free up my schedule, I will no longer make it a practice to reply to every comment that is made on the blog. I hate to do that, but I realize it is taking far too much of my time. This is the only change I can think of that will relieve some of that pressure. Please be assured, I will still read each and every comment and will be moderating them, as I always have done. I will also reply to some of them, but only as I feel necessary.

I hope the faithful readers I have accumulated understand why I am doing this. I also hope all of you realize I am not abandoning the blog. I simply have other things that need to be done, other things that I want to do, and the time to do those things has to come from somewhere. I will try to get around to the other blogs I read and comment as frequently as I can, but even that has to be curtailed, at least for the time being.

Until I was told recently how much it looked like I was carrying the weight of the country on my shoulders, I did not realize how much pressure I felt. It was a driving force that led me to write at every opportunity and to back up my arguments in the comments, both on this blog, and on others. I don’t begrudge those efforts, but I have came to realize I have spent the last five years driving myself to be as good at this hobby of mine as I could possibly be. It is simply time to cut back those efforts and focus on other things in my life.

I don’t intend to close the blog and I still intend to write, although probably not every day, as I have been for a long time. I just need to evaluate my priorities and resort them to the proper order. This is the only way I know to do that.

I understand completely how you feel and how much time it consumes keeping up with the blog and the comments and I respect your decision. I only hope that you do not decide to hang it up because we need you now more than ever.

    • I have no intention of hanging it up. I just need to adjust my priorities. The amount of time it was taking is almost unbelievable. I was getting up much earlier in the morning, just trying to keep up and it was taking its toll on me, both physically and mentally. I simply have to made adjustments to my schedule and that entails cutting some of this back.

Always love what you post, Larry. However, we have always said “family first”, so back off a bit, we are not going anywhere and we will keep posting. Take care!

I understand Larry and I am glad that you will still be around. People who don’t do this probably don’t know how time consuming and draining it can be.

  • Your fervor has been appreciated, Larry; it may not always seem like it, but I promise you–you have made a difference. Balancing your time and life-priorities is completely understandable. Keep on doing what you can!!; we’ll be here.

  • Being a faithful reader of your blog for a long time now I’ve marveled at how much time you’ve spent on it, even with just your posts and not including replying to comments. From the pressure I put myself under just to do more posting on my own blog I completely understand the pressure you refer to. I’m glad to know you’re not hanging it up. This isn’t the time for conservatives to go quietly into the night.

  • I do understand Larry. I felt like the efforts I put forth made mo difference at all. So much time and energy and for what? I had put my life on hold for three years and poured my heart and soul into the site and it didn’t even make a dent. But when I read about George Washington and Valley Forge the other night and it filled me up with the spirit of 76. We all have to do what we need to do, but I’m with Steve. We need you now more than ever because the power of words still matter and will make a difference. You’re a good man Larry and you will always have my respect because I know you love the idea that America once was.

  • Having too many comments… a nice problem to have!

  • Once Mr. AOW had his life-changing stroke in 2009, I had to give up on responding to every comment.
